Alex & Doreen: If We Do Not Amputate, You Will Die

The Apple & The Tree

Welcome to The Apple and the Tree with host, Richard Coles. In Episode One of this new series, we're in Hampshire to meet Alex and his mum, Doreen.

This is a deep and heartfelt conversation where mother and son talk of Alex’s late father, his own struggles with alcohol, and the severe illness that almost killed him.

In 2013 Alex lost all four limbs having barely survived Strep A sepsis - since when he has gone on to research and develop better solutions to artificial limbs. Crucially, there’s also a story about how, in a roundabout way, Holly Willoughby saved his life. As ever with The Apple and the Tree, there is nothing off limits.
